According to Wholevehicles, Marianske Lazne (Mariánské Lázně) is the second largest balneological resort in the Czech Republic, located 180 km from Prague and 48 km from Karlovy Vary at an altitude of 603 m above sea level in a valley surrounded by mountains on three sides. The area in which it is located is extremely rich in natural healing springs: only in the vicinity of the resort there are about a hundred of them, and in the resort itself – about 40 more..
For a long time, the local springs remained inaccessible due to impenetrable forests and swamps, and only in the 18th century did their active use for medicinal purposes begin, and in 1818 Marianske Lazne was declared a public resort.
