I have followed the Art & Fashion fashion design competition Since its creation, and the truth is that it gains in quality year after year: for the originality and innovation of the proposals, by the large number of international participants arising from the best fashion schools worldwide and the great novelty of this year is that finalists of the contest you can visit designs in the Alhondiga de Bilbao. Finally everyone can see the talent of the young designers.
The work of the 30 finalists of this fourth edition of the contest you can see and enjoy closely in one of the rooms of the Alhondiga until June 30 for free. The competition of young designers ‘Bilbao International Art & Fashion’, organised by the virtual community Bilboost It is one of the three most important competitions of the world by the number and quality of participants (1,000 young creators from all 5 continents and the most prestigious fashion schools), as well as by the amount of their awards (25,000 euros).
You can just about see the quality and detail with which all these designs, are made because in picture not all the craftsmanship that lead back you can see. Fashion designs more designed to enjoy in a Museum (because it is art with a capital), that to look in person, although it could be. All creations are as starting point of the art world and its various inspirations you can see the influence of great artists of all times.
The winners of the third edition of the competition, which has counted with the participation of young people in 60 countries, are the American of Taiwanese origin Alison Tsai, formed from the prestigious Parsons of New York, in the category of garments, and the vizcaino Daniel Santos in the Add-ons, which will receive $ 10,000 each. Gorka López Antxia It has been chosen by the jury as the best designer who develops its activity in the Basque country and will be awarded 5,000 euros.
In the category of garments Alison Tsai has been imposed with his collection “Coding non stop”, inspired by materials such as combined with handcrafted elements: accounts, tubes, tassels, fringe, etc. They are creations point with large volume.
In the category of add-ins Daniel Santos He has won with “Neo-Dada”, a collection of accessories inspired by surrealism. Their bags are made with marine elements: shell of a crab, sea stones, rocks… and in this you can see the influence of Dali.
And the also-Bizkaia Gorka Lopez Antxia It has imposed itself as best Basque designer with his “Traumarbeit (dream job)” collection, inspired by surrealism and Haute Couture. A work pattern that is reminiscent of a young Jean Paul Gaultier.
So the visit even more special, and thanks to the collaboration of Microsoft with the competition, attendees can visit the exhibition with a electronic tablets that it will show the information of each exposed collection. This is important because but tell you the work that is behind each design, details and anecdotes that you can get lost but you will pass unnoticed, it would be a shame. The lighting It will also play an important role, interacting with the audience and turning the visit into a visual experience.
If you have the opportunity to be this month in Bilbao, do not miss the exhibition to learn about the future of the national and international fashion. Who knows if he is not here in a future Balenciaga work?
